The SAT Daizōkyō Text Database Committee [2008.4.1]

The SAT 2007 Web Retrieval Service allows for the searching and usage of the web-based SAT text database. Its methods of usage and various options are explained here.

The retrieval system has four general functions:

1. Viewing a text by tracing through a tree-outline structure from the top page.
2. Doing a full-text search from a search window.
3. Page reading mode.
4. Links from other sites.

-------------------

1. Viewing a text by tracing through a tree-outline structure from the top page

Each text is placed in a tree-outline structure according to the sequence of its location in the Taishō shinshū daizōkyō. If you click on the section/volume number of your target text, a list appears showing the texts contained in that volume. If you then click on the name of the text, you it will open up from its first page. Explanations for ways of reading the text are provided below.

2. Full-text search from a search window

Typing or pasting the word(s) that you want to search the search window at the top of the page and clicking the Search button will initiate a search through the full SAT database. In this case, the search engine uses CHISE character ontology, wherein similar logographs are recomposed after the search is completed. This technology is supplemented by incorporating the variants table used in the DDB full-text search system.( This search mode searches the text ignoring Japanese yomikaeriten and kudoku ten. )

Search results are displayed on the right side of the screen in groups of thirty. At the same time an outline tree is generated on the left side displaying the section of the Taishō to which the text belongs. When you want to narrow your retrieval object to a specific part or text, please click the "Search in detail" button after ticking the corresponding check box. This will result in a narrowed-down retrieval.

To read the text of the search results, click the "show" button, upon which, the text will be displayed including the corresponding section. In addition, in the case where you want to check the entire the page, please click the page number in the upper part of the screen. This will result in a return to the usual page reading mode, displaying the related page.

3. Page reading mode

There are various functions within this mode:

4. Linking into the SAT database from other web sites

The SAT Web retrieval service offers the mechanism of being able to refer directly to a give portion of any text from other sites. This includes the two methods of (1) displaying the relevant section in page inspection mode, and (2) displaying only the text of the relevant section. Both methods are intended to bring the user to the most up-to-date version of the text, reflecting even the places where the text has been corrected. A function for supplying version information to allow the reader to know whether the text in question is of pre-correction or post-correction status is currently under development, so please be patient regarding this for a little while longer.

(2) Displaying the relevant section in page inspection mode After the base URL "http://21dzk.l.u-tokyo.ac.jp/SAT/TP", apply the below formula, followed by the suffix ".html":

[0-9]{4}[a-z_],[0-9]{2},[0-9]{4}[a-z][0-9]{2} text no., vol. no., page no., register, line

For example in this URL:

http://21dzk.l.u-tokyo.ac.jp/SAT/TP0099_,02,0009a10.html The indicated page opens in page reading mode, and the anchor of the tenth line is displayed in the upper part of the window.

(2) Displaying only the text of the relevant section
Using the base URL of "http://21dzk.l.u-tokyo.ac.jp/SAT/T"
apply the below formula, followed by the suffix ".html":

[0-9]{4}[a-z_],[0-9]{2},[0-9]{4}[a-z][0-9]{2}
text no., vol. no., page no., register, line

To display more than one line at a time, you can set the extent by including the first and last strings based on the above formula, delimited by a colon [ : ]. For example, to display lines 1-5 of T 1, vol, 1, page 10, register 1, you would use the below string:

0001_,01,0010a01:0001_,01,0010a05.html

Please note that when you display text using this method, you can only display the indicated section, and the page cannot be changed.

Finally, please understand that we will be continuing to develop and enhance both the text database and retrieval service. If you have any suggestions for us in toward this end, we would be delighted to hear them, so please do let us know your thoughts
