Yusuke Nakamura

Professor, Cultural Resources

Prof. Nakamura's main area of research deals with the distributed cognition of cognitive artifacts. The bulk of his empirical studies are carried out in developing countries, done mainly by conducting investigations while cooperating with local researchers and NGOs through vocational training and the social development intended for the native peoples of various languages in Latin America. As a related problem, he examines field survey methods with a keen interest in improving these. Another important research topic is that of organically connecting the findings of this field work to the historical studies of the development of cognitive artifacts, including the observations of cognitive science concerning linguistic competence, numerical ability, and utensils use, etc. to written documents. He is working actively in joint research with the researchers in various related fields.
