Shogo Takegawa

Professor, Sociology

Prof. Takegawa is responsible for guiding students in the Sociology department who are specializing in the study of social policy and social programs. Up to now, he has conducted studies of the theory of social policy and social programs, and has carried out empirical studies of regional social planning. Starting with the UK, he has worked on the introduction of the social security system, doing comparative sociological research on the welfare state, and so forth. At present he working at elucidating a theory regarding the influence that globalization is exerting on local social policies. Additionally, he is engaged in the empirical research on in the influence of social factors on health, and on social consciousness concerning social policy, and so forth. Among his book-length publications are Chiiki shakai keikaku to jumin seikatsu, Fukushi kokka to shimin shakai, Fukushi shakai no shakai seisaku, Shakai seisaku no naka no gendai, and so forth. In undergraduate lectures and seminars, he tends to address the matter concerning the social problems and the social policy. In graduate school seminars, he is in charge of the comparative studies on the welfare state and the social policy. In terms of activities outside of the university, he has participated in the decision indicator-making etc., of the regional welfare planning committee of the Social Security Council Social Affairs Division association. He is also working as the welfare sociology association secretariat, the vice-chairman of the residence welfare society, and the manager of the social policy society.
