Yusuke Nakamura†

Prof. Nakamura's main area of research deals with the distributed cognition of cognitive artifacts such as paper documents and computers. The bulk of his empirical studies are carried out in developing countries, done mainly by conducting investigations while cooperating with local researchers, governments and NGOs in Latin America. As a related problem, he examines field survey methods with a keen interest in improving these. Another important research topic is that of organically connecting the findings of this field work to the historical studies of the development of cognitive artifacts. He is working actively in joint research with the researchers in various related fields.
